I know from experience, if you’ve got a great paying job, it can be hard to make the decision to walk away to become a full-time real estate investor. This is a very personal decision, and there’s not always a clear answer or perfect timing.

How Will Got Started in Real Estate Investing
After a troubled past of drugs, alcohol and school dropouts, Will got sober and entered the mortgage business with a family friend. He learned about the business and decided to do a house hack in the DC area. He secured an FHA loan with his dad as cosigner, and rented out two of the bedrooms in his home.
What Inspired Will to Go Into Real Estate Full Time
Although Will was very lucrative in the mortgage business, he started to feel differently about his success once he saw how much taxes he paid as a W-2 employee. He was unable to write off any of his business expenses. In terms of taxes, Will saw that the benefits of real estate far outweighed his job.
Will’s Advice for Determining If You Should Leave Your Job
First, you should look at your savings. Will recommends having six months to one year of living expenses. You should also consider your resourcefulness. Do you trust yourself to make an income? Ask yourself if you have the confidence to make it work.
